On May 30, 2016 signal timing improvements were implemented at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Heritage Drive S.W. as part of the Traffic Operational Improvements program.
Prior to the change, the intersection operated with a split-phase traffic signal operation on Heritage Drive during the morning peak period. That meant that eastbound traffic had to stop before westbound traffic was able to flow.
The traffic signal operation was changed so that eastbound and westbound traffic flow at the same time, similar to most signalized intersections in the city. By doing this, delays on Macleod Trail are reduced as the amount of green-light time on Macleod Trail is increased.
This change impacts traffic on weekdays between 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Please note: Eastbound and westbound left-turning motorists are cautioned that they must yield to opposing through traffic and pedestrians when a solid green signal indication is provided with no turn arrow.
