Study background and overview
In June 2007, The City of Calgary's Land Use Planning and Policy (LUPP) launched Southeast 17 Corridor Study to determine the land use conditions for realizing the potential of this business corridor. The results of this study will be presented to City Council in early 2010.
Transportation Planning is contributing to LUPP's project with a Transportation Planning Study for 17 Avenue S.E. from Downtown to the East Ring Road and has commissioned an engineering consultant, AECOM Canada, to review the corridor. The study boundaries for the transportation planning study were extended to the downtown through Inglewood area. The study will:
- Determine the transportation and transit requirements for 17 Avenue S.E. from Deerfoot Trail to East Ring Road.
- Examine the feasibility of a Bus Rapid Transit line from Elbow River to Deerfoot Trail in and around the Inglewood area to interface with the 17 Avenue S.E. transit line.
- Address the cyclists/pedestrians, truck traffic as well as access and parking requirements
- Identify the ultimate right of way requirements to accommodate the proposed improvements in the corridor.
Study area
The study area boundaries are one block north and south of both 9 Avenue S.E. (in Inglewood) and one block north and south of 17 Avenue S.E. (in Forest Lawn). They include the downtown in the west and the East Ring Road in the east.
