Council directed Transportation Planning to work with the community to provide design alternatives for the laneway located north of 8 Avenue S.E. between 12 Street and 13 Street S.E.
Over the past year, we have been working on creating design concepts that incorporate the ideas from the May 2014 workshop and online survey.
Thank you to those citizens who shared their ideas and opinions on possible design changes to the laneway located north of 8 Ave. S.E. between 12 St. and 13 St.
From June to August 2015, more than 250 citizens provided feedback in person or online. There were a variety of opportunities to provide input including an open house, online input, in-person events at the park, and direct mail. The majority of participants told us their preference was no change and to leave the area as is. Read the engagement summary.
In fall 2016, after reviewing community feedback, the project team will confirm a recommendation on how the project should move forward. This recommendation will be presented to The City of Calgary’s Transportation and Transit Committee, where the Committee will recommend to Council whether the recommendation should be approved or changed.

Phase Three – Select a preferred plan
On June 18, we hosted an open house at the Alexandra Centre Society to present four design concepts for the laneway. The concepts were evaluated based on how well each one integrated the features participants rated the highest in the May 2014 workshop and online survey. The preferred concept received the highest score in the evaluation process. It also meets City requirements related to emergency services, waste and recycling, parks, urban design, roads, and public art.
At the open house we asked citizens to tell us what they liked or did not like about the preferred concept. This engagement opportunity was designed to collect feedback that will help inform project decisions moving forward. View the open house presentation boards.
