The environmental performance of Contractors working for The City of Calgary is critical in helping us meet our commitment to protect the environment and comply with all environmental laws and regulations.

This section includes information on the different environmental tools and corporate procedures that may be applicable to City Contractors. There are many laws and regulations relating to the protection of the environment that The City abides by.

Please note: Contractors are responsible for knowing and complying with all applicable laws, regulations, approvals or permits relating to the work they are doing for The City.

What environmental standards does The City use?

In 1999, The City of Calgary began implementing an organization-wide environmental management system called EnviroSystem based on the ISO 14001 standard. Environmental legislation requires that The City implement a systematic approach to manage its environmental impacts and risks.

Impact to contractors
By having an ISO-registered system, The City is working toward a high level of due diligence and regulatory compliance. The new ISO 14001:2004 standard has placed an increased focus on requirements for any person working on behalf of the organization.
