On May 30, 2016 City Council approved an indicative rate for 2017 and 2018 for the city-wide Green Cart Program of $6.50 per household per month.
All households that currently receive blue cart and black cart collection will receive a green cart and will see this user fee on their utility bill once they start receiving the service.
The rate for the Green Cart Program is based on what it costs to run the program. The Green Cart Program cost accounts for money saved from changing black cart garbage collection from weekly to once every two weeks.
This monthly fee will help pay for weekly green cart collection, building and operating the compost facility, buying green carts, education and marketing of the final compost product.
An indicative rate is what we expect the rate to be when the program begins. This amount will be finalized when The City's budget adjustments are approved by Council in November 2016.
