Waste & Recycling Services

Election sign recycling
The City of Calgary accepts corrugated plastic election signs for recycling at the Throw 'n' Go area of the Shepard Landfill (12111 - 68 Street SE). A temporary location will be open to collect signs until June 1, 2012. As long as loads only contain corrugated plastic election signs, there will be no charge. Signs must be free of any wood, bolts, wire or any material other than the corrugated plastic.

Green Cart - food and yard waste diversion pilot
Four communities have been selected to participate in a residential food and yard waste diversion pilot. The program will involve the communities of Abbeydale, Brentwood, Cougar Ridge and Southwood starting in March 2012. Learn more about the benefits of composting food and yard waste, and how the pilot program will work on our Green Cart pilot program page.

Recycling tip - Keep it loose in your blue cart
When putting recyclables into your blue cart or community recycling depot, remember to keep your items loose, not bagged or bundled. Shredded paper and plastic bags are the only items that should be bundled in a clear plastic bag.

Calgary recycling programs
Calgarians can recycle through The City's easy-to-use and popular Blue Cart recycling program, Community Recycling Depots and various other recycling programs throughout the year.
