Dispose of it safely
Chemicals like artist's paint, modelling glue and photo developing fluids must be disposed of safely so they do not create an environmental or safety hazard.
You can take up to 20 litres of household chemicals per week, free of charge, to any of The City landfill Throw 'n' Go areas or designated fire stations as part of the Household Hazardous Waste Program. Empty containers can also be brought in for safe disposal.
Landfill Throw 'n' Go areas are available when the landfills are open. The Household Hazardous Waste drop-offs are open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Never flush these items down your toilet, sink or drain as they can be harmful to the environment and may cause damage to the pipes in your home.
Household hazardous waste must be properly labelled and packaged:
- Leave your leftover household hazardous waste in the original container or make sure it is clearly labelled indicating the true contents.
- Your leftover household hazardous waste should be packaged securely in a sealed, spill-proof container.
