Dispose of it safely

Drugs and medications are not accepted at landfills and should not be disposed of in the garbage or down the sink or toilet as it can be harmful to the environment. Most pharmacies accept unused portions of drugs, pills, cough syrup, vitamins, over-the-counter and prescription medication for safe disposal. You should contact your local pharmacy in advance to ensure that they will accept drugs and medication or visit the Alberta Pharmacists' Association for a full list of participating pharmacies.

Recycle it

Empty pill bottles with a recycling symbol can go in your blue cart or community recycling depot. Lids should be placed in the garbage as they are too small to be properly sorted at our recycling facility.

Throw it out

Inhaler canisters (puffers) can be placed in your black cart.
