 Propane tanks

Dispose of it safely

Propane tanks (e.g. standard barbeque tanks and small camping canisters) are accepted in the Household Hazardous Waste Program. You can take propane tanks (up to 20 lbs) to any of The City landfill Throw 'n' Go areas or designated fire stations, free of charge.

For larger propane tanks (over 20 lbs), please bring them to the Throw 'n' Go area at any City landfill, free of charge. Note: Charges will apply at the Throw 'n' Go for mixed loads containing more than just household hazardous waste.

Vehicle propane tanks are not accepted in the Household Hazardous Waste Program. Please consult Alberta's Recycling Hotline for a list of private companies that may accept these tanks for safe disposal for a fee.

Propane tanks are not accepted in black carts, blue carts or at community recycling depots. Even if the propane tank has been punctured/depressurized, it should always be disposed of safely at a household hazardous waste drop-off.
