Water meters

Water meters make good sense. They save water and they save money for Calgarians. Today, more than four in five Calgary residences have water meters, and commercial and industrial customers are 100 per cent metered. If you don't already have a water meter, it's time to get one installed.

Save water, save money

Water meters increase your control over your water bill. A meter measures and records the amount of water supplied to your home or business. As a metered customer, you only pay for the water you use, in addition to a service charge.

This section provides details about the following:

City Council passed a bylaw in 2002 that will put water meters in every home by 2014. An amendment to this bylaw was passed by City Council in 2009 to reflect a two-year earlier start date (from January 1, 2012 to January 2010) to convert all remaining flat rate accounts to meters.
