14 Street N.W. alleyway drainage improvement project

Several storm drainage infrastructure upgrades are taking place in the community as part of the Sunnyside Community Drainage Improvement Project. Together, all of these upgrades will address the localized flooding that happens in the area.

One of the scheduled upgrades is the 14.5 Street N.W. drainage improvement project, which will replace 255 metres of existing storm sewer pipe with a new larger pipe in the alleyway between 14 Street N.W. and 15 Street N.W. from 2 Avenue N.W. to 6 Avenue N.W. Existing manholes and catch basins will also be replaced. A backflow preventer will be installed and the alleyway will be repaved.

Construction details and impacts:

  • Construction will begin on April 28, 2017 and will take approximately five weeks to complete, weather dependent.
  • Construction will be completed in phases, east along 2 Avenue N.W. from 14 Street N.W. to the alley, and north up the alley from 2 Avenue N.W. to 6 Avenue N.W.
  • Access to driveways and parking garages will be restricted during various phases of construction.
  • 2 Avenue N.W. will be temporarily closed from 14 Street N.W. to west of the alleyway before 15 Street N.W.
  • There will be no change to your garbage and recycling pick-up during construction. Please continue to put out your blue and black carts as normal on collection day.
  • Construction noise during work hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday).
  • Additional noise and dust (will be controlled by contractor).

Please see the April 2017 project notice for more information.

Please see the below map for the rolling construction phases with approximate timelines for each phase.
