Mission watermain upgrade

In response to the effects of scouring on the Elbow River during the 2013 flood event, the existing water main crossing the river adjacent to 25 Avenue S.W. (Scollen Bridge) will be abandoned as it does not currently comply with provincial requirements. In addition to this work, a segment of the existing water main under 26 Avenue S.W. will be upsized and a new water main will be installed under 2 Street S.W. between 26 Avenue S.W. and 25 Avenue S.W. This work will be completed in a phased approach.

The first phase of upsizing the water main under 26 Avenue S.W. was completed at the end of September 2017 while the remaining installation and abandonment phases will commence in the summer of 2018. Ahead of this work, the City will communicate to residents and commuters anticipated construction impacts, schedule of site activity and any water service impacts. Note that other underground work may occur within the Mission neighbourhood during the summer of 2018, however it is not related to the above scope.

This upgrading process will position the City to preserve the safety and security of the water supply for years to come.
