Water main replacements

Our water distribution system relies on 4,650 kilometres of water mains to carry quality drinking water from our water treatment plants to homes and businesses across the city.

To continue to serve you and your family with clean drinking water, we have to replace selected water mains. The repairs usually happen in older communities. Crews replace old corroded cast iron pipe with PVC pipe. These pipes last longer and corrode less.

Below is a list of planned water main replacements for 2018.

On 58 Avenue S.W. from 5 Street S.W. to Macleod Trail S. The work at this location will rely upon a traffic diversion strategy to ensure crew safety and allow Chinook Mall patrons to still access parking to the mall.

Project Details

  • Cast iron water mains will be replaced with PVC pipes
  • Nearby valves and hydrants will also be replaced and upgraded
  • Concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters that have been removed to allow for water main work to occur will be replaced

Construction/Traffic Impacts

  • Residents and businesses can expect some noise, dust and vibrations when crews are working
  • Residents and businesses will be provided with temporary water
  • Short term water shut offs may occur to accommodate work
  • Residents will be notified to move their vehicles to ensure they are able to access them
  • Traffic and congestion due to construction activities may occur
  • Regular hours of work are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday
