Kids & Company

Kids & Company provides a nurturing and educational early-learning environment for children to play, discover and grow.  They offer proprietary curriculum such as Alpha-Mania (pre-reading), Mini Masters (art program introducing visionary artists), Munchkinetics (fitness and movement), sign language, music, science, and structured and unstructured play.

Flexible care options available to City of Calgary employees

The City of Calgary has purchased an annual corporate membership with Kids & Company. The membership provides City employees access guaranteed full-time or part-time daycare space (within six months) and or emergency back-up childcare. Employees choosing to access Kids and Company services are responsible for all applicable fees. The City does not offer payroll deduction services as a method of payment.

Who is eligible?

All City of Calgary employees currently paying into a City benefits plan are eligible to purchase services under The City's Kids & Company membership.
Please note that should your employment with The City of Calgary end, you will no longer be able to access the services of Kids & Company under The City's membership. You will have a three-month grace period to find alternate arrangements. Any unused back-up visits you have purchased will also be void.

Full-time or part-time childcare

Guaranteed part-time or full-time childcare is available within six-months notice for children up to six years of age.
Costs for these services are available by contacting a Kids & Company location. A non-refundable registration fee is required for full-time and part-time care at the time of registration.

Back-up childcare

City employees can access back-up childcare for children up to age 13 when regular arrangements fall through. Some examples of when to use this service include; regular caregiver is sick, on holidays or otherwise unavailable, school is suddenly cancelled, school is on break or a parent is called into work on a scheduled day off.
Once you have registered (see below for details), call your preferred Kids & Company location as soon as you know that you need back-up care to reserve a spot. If the centre of your choice is full for the day, Kids & Company will try to accommodate you at another location.
City of Calgary employees can purchase a package of 15 back-up childcare visits from Kids & Company for $350 per child. Please note:
  • back-up visits are non-transferable between children
  • unused visits expire at the end of the calendar year and cannot be carried over into the next year
  • you will not receive a refund for any unused visits
  • you cannot purchase fewer than 15 visits per year
  • if you run out of visits before the end of the year, you cannot purchase additional visits until the following calendar year
  • visits can be used on consecutive days up to your 15 allowable visits

How do I access Kids and Company?

  1. Visit Kids & Company Get Started registration page and select 'City of Calgary' from the drop-down menu, then select 'Take me to the Next Step…enroll now' and complete the Parent Enrollment form. Your username and password will be emailed to you within one hour.
  2. Once you receive your user name and password Go back to Kids & Company. Click 'Sign-in' on the right at the very top of the page and input the username and password provided in the email you received. This will take you to the ‘Parent Portal’ page where you can fill out the online registration forms for full-time/part-time childcare, back-up childcare or eldercare.

You can also visit a Kids & Company location to register for childcare services in person.

ACE Child Development Centre (Municipal Building)

The Association of Civic Employees (A.C.E.) Child Development Centre is a quality non-profit child care centre that caters to children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years old. It is located on the ground floor of the Municipal Building and prioritizes the children of City of Calgary employees on the wait list.

The centre is operated by an Executive Director and Program Supervisor while governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by and made up of the centre’s parents. The centre is licensed with the Government of Alberta and accredited through the Alberta Association for the Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services (AELCS) recognizing the centre for its excellence in child care. 

The educational program is based on the most up to date and recent findings in child care. With the support of parents, our trained and experienced child care staff aim to provide children the varied learning experiences that will help them to develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.

ACE offers full-time, part-time and drop-in care. Drop-in care is subject to age (20 months-6 years of age) and availability.

Eldercare services

Homewood Human Solutions

The City’s Employee and Family Assistance program can provide professional support free of charge to employees in locating resources and counselling support dealing with an elderly parent or family member.

Balancing career responsibilities with family responsibilities is the reality for most of us and generally we can manage just fine. But if you take on the extra demands of caring for an elderly or ill relative, or find you are carrying a particularly heavy load, having a professional point you in the right direction may be all that you need to relieve your stress and anxieties.
