Looking to gain valuable work experience?
The City participates in the federal student program, Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). Our student positions are advertised at various Alberta campuses in January and posted on our careers page in February.
Work terms are for four months in length, May to August and provide students with challenging and meaningful experiences.
Some examples of our student positions are Capital Projects Planning Assistant, Emergency Management Planning Assistant, Green Development Researcher, Traffic Engineering Student and Waste Diversion Program student.
Mentoring and career coaching:
In addition to the coaching received from the hiring manager, students also have the chance to participate in the Student Mentorship Program and receive further support from experienced city employees. This program provides mentees with opportunities to discuss strategies for setting and attaining career goals and manage work and life decisions.
Through conversation and the building of a relationship with their mentor, students can gain greater knowledge of career success factors and first-hand insights into working for Municipal Government.
Youth Employment Centre:
The Youth Employment Centre (YEC)
provides career and employment services to Calgary youth ages 15 to 24. Together, with local business and various other youth-serving agencies, YEC provides youth with numerous career-developing opportunities such as hiring fairs and work experience placements.
