Who is Homewood Health and what is EFAP?

Homewood Health is your Employee & Family Assistance Program provider. They offer personalized, confidential, short-term counselling, coaching, life planning and e-learning opportunities for you and your family.

 
 

Who do I contact?

Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To book an appointment or to help determine what services or options are best suited to your needs, contact Homewood Health Client Service Centre.

  4. To login you will require your user name and password
  5. To register enter: City of Calgary and select City of Calgary
  6. Complete the required information on each page then click continue

Are services confidential?

Your information will not be shared with anyone without your informed and written consent. The only exceptions are those cases in which the counsellor:

  • believes that a person poses a threat of serious injury to him/herself or others
  • suspects child abuse
  • is required, by law, to disclose information

Who can access EFAP?

All City of Calgary employees and their eligible family members can access EFAP services free of charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to full-time employees, eligible employees include:

  • temporary Employment Services Agency (TESA)
  • seasonal, part-time and temporary employees
  • employees of the Calgary Police Commission
  • employees of ACE Daycare

Previous employees can access services for three months after the date of retirement or conclusion of employment.

Services for managers and supervisors

If you're a manager or supervisor, you may occasionally need assistance in dealing with employees that have personal or work-related concerns. Homewood Health provides services to assist you including:

  • Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
  • key person advice line and training
  • on-call resource for complex mental health case
  • e-courses for leaders, such as leading change, effective supervision and first-time supervisor skill sets

How can Homewood Health help me?

Plan Smart Services™

Homewood Health offers Plan Smart Services™ to help you manage everyday issues and life transitions. Expert advice and resources are available on a variety of topics, including child and eldercare support, nutritional counselling, career counselling, legal and financial assistance, pre-retirement planning, and shift worker support.

Counselling services

Confidential, professional short-term counselling is available for a broad range of personal and family problems, including managing anxiety and depression, controlling substance use and resolving family conflict.

Homewood Health; health professionals are Masters or PhD level counsellors chosen for their experience in dealing with a variety of psychological and health issues. Counselling services are available face-to-face, over the phone or online.

The counselling process is short-term in nature and is typically, but not limited to, 3-4 sessions. Some cases may need longer term care or specialized services. Your counsellor will assist you in identifying and connecting with the appropriate resource. Alberta Health Services or Provincial Social Resources may cover resources from the public sector. Fees for private practice professionals may be covered under The City of Calgary's Extended Health Benefit plan. For more information contact the HR Service Centre at 403-268-5800.
