January – New year, new you
The start of a New Year is the perfect time to take a fresh look at your wellness goals. What do you want to achieve this year? What are you excited
about? What’s the first step you’re going to take?
Making changes to your routine can seem hard at first, but you can set yourself up for success if you follow some of these tips:
Pick goals that excite you: If you pick goals that you’re not excited about, you’ve picked the wrong goals. Losing weight is a great example.
Rather than set a goal to lose weight, set goals that will contribute to weight loss. Maybe try setting wellness goals like getting better
quality sleep, choosing healthy foods more often, fitting physical activity into your day or managing stress in healthy ways.
Take things one step at a time: When you break down each goal into smaller parts it becomes more attainable and allows you can see the
progress you’re making.
Make a plan: Take time to figure out what you need to do to accomplish each step toward your goals. Do you need to get up half an hour
earlier, or rearrange your schedule to attend a class? This will give you a structure that can help you achieve your goals.
Celebrate success: Rather than wait until you’ve achieved your goals, reward yourself along the way. This reinforces the work you’ve done,
and can motivate you to keep moving towards your goals.
Don’t get discouraged: Even when you have a plan and are making progress, there’s always a chance there may be a setback. That’s normal,
and it’s important to focus on your goals, and make any adjustments to keep moving forward.
A great goal to set in 2015 is to attend a free health screening clinic available at various City locations for employees. Your blood pressure,
blood glucose and cholesterol numbers can identify your risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
So why not take 20 minutes to talk with a health professional and get the numbers that matter most at a health screening clinic? Go to

in a few easy steps you can accomplish your first goal of the New Year!
