The Dec. 5, 2016, Combined Meeting of Council included:
Land Use Items
Council approved a total of 13 secondary suites approved including those in the communities of Brentwood, Whitehorn and Varisty. A secondary suite in the community of Sherwood was not approved. All other land use items were approved.
Chinatown Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) Scoping Report and Land Use Amendments
Council approved Guiding Principles to be used as an interim guide to reviewing planning applications reviewing, in conjunction with the Chinatown ARP, Centre City Plan and other City policies, until a new ARP is approved. Council directed Administration to conduct Phase 1 of work as outlined in the Chinatown Area Redevelopment Plan and Cultural Plan Scope of Work and report back to Council, through the Standing Policy Committee on Planning & Urban Development, with a progress report by no later than 2018 Q2. A cultural vibrant Chinatown is important to the Chinese community, and to all of Calgary. An ARP will guide redevelopment activities in Chinatown, in conjunction with a Cultural Plan to address the community’s unique cultural needs that are not adequately addressed in an ARP.
Council held a public hearing on the land use amendments and withheld third reading of the proposed amendments pending the approval of a Development Permit by Calgary Planning Commission.
Calgary Planning Commission Reports
Council approved all items.
