Combined Meeting of Council Jan. 16, 2017

The Jan. 16, 2017, Combined Meeting of Council included:

Land Use Items

Council approved a total of 7 secondary suites approved including those in the communities of Cougar Ridge, Thorncliffe and Mahogony. Secondary suites in the communities of Evergreen and Southwood were not approved.

All other land use items were approved with the exception of:

Land Use Amendment in Capitol Hill

The application proposed a redesignation of land use to allow for a multi-residential use and was given first reading. Second and third readings were withheld pending the concurrent Development Permit Application.

Land Use Amendment in Killarney

The application proposed a redesignation of land use to allow for a Medical Clinic and was not approved.

Road Closure for Bonnybrook Wastewater Treatment Plant

The application proposed a permanent closure of 15 St. S.E. to allow for a consolidation of Bonnybrook Wastewater Treatment Plant parcels. The request was table at the request of the applicant to allow for additional notification of surrounding businesses.

Highland Park Golf Course Land Use Amendment

Council completed the public hearing for this item. Council deferred debate on the motion to approve this item to the January 23, 2017, Council Meeting. The application proposes a redesignation of land use to allow for a street oriented multi-residential development.

Secondary Suite Development Permit Exemption

Council deferred this item to the February Public Hearing of Council. Administration has recommended Council approved the proposed amendment which will make the Development Permit exemption for secondary suites that comply with the Land Use Bylaw permanent.

Notice of Motion: Downtown Calgary and Economic Uncertainty

Council deferred this item to the January 23, 2017, Council Meeting. This notice of motion recommends Council direct Administration to work with Calgary Economic Development to organize a Downtown Economic Summit. The goal of the summit is to identify emerging trends and opportunities to ensure The City uses its capacity to best position resources for the future.
