The April 5, 2018, Combined Meeting of Council included:

Cannabis legalization – proposed bylaws

The Community and Protective Services Committee made three bylaw recommendations: (1) that the Business License Bylaw be amended to include licence categories for Cannabis Stores and Cannabis Facilities; (2) that the existing Smoking Bylaw be repealed and replaced with a new Smoking and Vaping Bylaw, and; (3) that a new bylaw outlining areas where, when and how cannabis may be consumed in public be approved.

These three bylaws were approved by Council.

2018 property tax related bylaws

Property taxes are a primary source of funding for The City’s operating budget which supports the delivery of municipal services. Administration recommended that Council approve a combined property tax rate increase of 0.20% for residential and 1.0% for non-residential properties. Council approved these rate increases, which include a deferred increase of 2.9% from 2017.

Administration also recommended that Council approve both the proposed Machinery and Equipment Property Tax Exemption Bylaw and the proposed Rivers District Community Revitalization Levy Rate Bylaw. Council’s gave their required approval for these property tax related bylaws as well.
