Aging in Place Laneway House Pilot – Scoping Report
Administration presented a scoping report on the Aging in Place Laneway House Pilot project, which the committee received for information. The City of Calgary is working collaboratively with a University of Calgary research team on project, which is an innovative housing unit designed to allow the elderly or frail to remain in a home environment for as long as possible. This unit fits on a large residential lot with an existing house, and for the pilot will use the approval process for a backyard suite. This supports The City’s age-friendly strategy and the Municipal Development Plan’s vision for creating complete communities. The University of Calgary research team will identify two participants and two sites to trial in succession, aiming to begin testing in Q1 2017.
