The Jan. 9, 2019, Planning and Urban Development Committee meeting included:

City Planning and Policy Priorities 2019

Administration presented a report for information on priority City Planning and Policy Priorities initiatives in 2019. The report outlined the reasons why Administration should prioritize specific policy initiatives in 2019 and the benefits this will provide towards achieving Council’s and Calgarians’ priorities. Committee directed this report back to Administration to return to the Planning and Urban Development Committee in February with a recommended work plan for 2019.

Industry/City Work Plan 2018 Year-end Report

Administration presented a report summarizing the progress made on the 2018 industry/city work plan, along with actions outlined for 2019. This report focused on key initiatives that the development industry and Administration are addressing to enable development in Calgary, enhance accountability, make process improvements, and provide engagement opportunities. This will go forward to Council with Committee recommending that Council direct Administration to: Provide a mid-year communication, in the form of a memo, to all Council members on the progress of the 2019 Industry/City Work Plan, no later than July 15, 2019; and to report back to Committee with a 2019 year-end Industry/City Work Plan report, no later than January 2020.

Municipal Development Plan and Calgary Transportation Plan Review – Scoping Report

Administration presented a report detailing the work to be done to review and update to the Municipal Development Plan and the Calgary Transportation Plan - which outline the overarching strategic direction for The City of Calgary. The review will continue to use the eleven Sustainability Principles for Land Use and Mobility and eight Key Directions for Land Use and Mobility in the 2009 Council-approved Plans as the foundation for addressing gaps and reviewing the Plans to ensure effectiveness. The Committee directed Administration to: Undertake the review work of the Municipal Development Plan and Calgary Transportation Plan; and, return with the outcomes of Phase 1 to Council through Committee on Planning and Urban Development no later than Q4 2019.
