The May 16, 2016, Regular Meeting of Council included:
Bylaw To Establish Ward Boundaries For The 2017 Municipal General Election
Council gave first reading to the new Ward Boundaries Bylaw and directed the Returning Officer to complete the statutory advertising for public notification. The bylaw tabulation will take place at the September 12, 2016 meeting of Council. The revised boundaries will ensure that all City Wards are within the allowed Policy deviation of ± 25% deviation from the mean for 2017 Municipal General Election.
City Wide – Land Use Bylaw Amendments
Council approved amendments to the Land Use Bylaw. The amendments include an increase to the allowable floor space for basement suites and changes to parcel width restrictions on corner lots and laneways. Council did not approve changes to allowable floor areas for backyard suites and relaxation of parcel widths based on districts.
Aging-in-place Laneway Housing Pilot Project
Council approved a proposal to explore an Aging-in-Place Laneway Housing Pilot Project. Administration must report to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning & Urban Development no later than Q3 2016 with recommendations for the pilot project to ensure that it can be executed no later than January 2017. The recommendations will include a process by which communities and participants will be selected for the pilot project and identify the appropriate funding streams.
