The Dec. 8, 2016, Transportation and Transit Committee meeting included:

Enabling Public Parking In Existing Parking Lots Deferral

As part of the approval of the Integrated Downtown / TOD Parking Strategy and the Park and Ride strategy, Council directed Administration to investigate a process to open up existing parking lots tied to development for general public use. Administration requested an additional month to allow for additional engagement around the proposed approach. This request is not expected to materially delay the overall project. This was approved.

Green Line Quarterly Update And Beltline Alignment

This report provided the quarterly update for the Green Line program and presented next steps to conclude the evaluation of the Beltline alignment options. A Beltline alignment recommendation by March 2017 represents the conclusion of the Green Line long term vision phase. The report also included a summary of the continued efforts to secure funding and considerations for the first stage of project implementation. This was approved.

Cycling Strategy 2016 Annual Report

Administration provided an annual update of the 2011 Council approved Cycling Strategy (Action C-47). During the last year, progress has been made on all three pillars of the Cycling Strategy (plan-design-build, operate & maintain, educate & promote). The Transportation Department delivered 9 km of new or improved bikeway and two dozen spot improvements, continued operating the Centre City Cycle Track Network Pilot, improved winter maintenance techniques, collected more usage data and delivered dozens of educational messages to help all roadway users to better understand new facilities and the rules of the road. This was approved.

Centre City Cycle Track Network Pilot Project Final Report

Council directed the Transportation Department to pilot a 6.5 km network of cycle tracks and shared space in the Centre City for 18 months and provide a final pilot project report in December 2016. Administration is recommending that the pilot become permanent. Committee sent this item to Council without a recommendation. A decision will be made at the Dec. 19 Regular Meeting of Council.
