The Oct. 19, 2016, Utilities and Corporate Services Committee meeting included:
Food and Yard Waste Diversion Bylaw Amendments
The Committee recommended that Council give three readings to the proposed amendments to the City's Waste and Recycling Bylaw. Amendments to the bylaw are required to support food and yard waste diversion in the Single-Family (SF), Multi-family (MF) and the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) sectors.
The Bylaw requires amendments for SF homeowners to use their Green Carts properly; owners and occupants of MF residences to implement food and yard waste diversion; and owners and occupants of ICI establishments to implement food and yard waste diversion. If approved, these amendments will take effect on November 1, 2017. Other amendments will come into effect the date the bylaw is passed, including some terminology and other housekeeping items that will prepare the Bylaw for incorporation of Green Cart program rates during the Mid Cycle Adjustment process in November 2016.
