Construction Notice - East Bowmont Natural Environment Park Project
The East Bowmont Natural Environmental park will begin construction in the next few days. This project was a collaborative effort involving Water Resources, Watershed + and Parks. Extensive public engagement has been done by the team and copies of the boards used in this consultation will be posted shortly on www.calgary.ca/bowmontpark.
A competitive bid process was used for the tender and Wilco construction was the successful bidder. One of the primary focuses of this phase is the installation of a storm water treatment facility. As the catchment area is nearly 4500 hectares, this project is high priority for Water Resources as a storm water quality retrofit project, in order to maintain the City’s TSS levels to those of 2005. Once the facility is complete the annual sediment loads in this catchment area are estimated to decrease by 50%.
The project was also a pilot project for Watershed +. Participating as members of the infrastructure design team, the lead artists on The City’s innovative Watershed+ program have been contributing to the project design, working alongside the engineers and consultants to create an engaging space for Calgarians to renew their relationship with the Bow River watershed.
Restoration of the former Klippert Gravel pit will enable a now isolated space to become a green space for Calgarians to cycle, walk, explore and relax. Numerous pathways are being built as part of this phase as well as an improved access point from Home Road.
