Current Economic Analysis for June 2015
• The unemployment rate in the Calgary Economic Region (CER) was 6.1 per cent in June, an increase of 0.3 percentage point from May. Meanwhile the national rate was 6.9 per cent, down from 7.1 per cent in June 2014.
• In May, the number of Calgarians receiving regular employment insurance benefits jumped 48.9 per cent from the year before, landing at 15,100 persons. At the provincial level the number climbed to 48,820 persons, a 61.3 per cent annual increase.
• The Canadian Consumer Confidence Index (where 2014 = 100) rose 2.9 points from May to 102.7 in June.
• The City of Calgary issued $622.7 million worth of building permits in June. The total value of building permits was $2.7 billion for the first half of 2015.
