In March 2014, I brought the motion to Calgary City Council to rectify the inflexibility of the senior pass. Council voted in favour of pro-rated annual transit passes for seniors over the age of 65. This means that the later in the year the pass is bought, the less it costs.
I am delighted to announce that seniors may purchase their Senior Citizen Yearly Transit pass at a reduced rate if they turn 65 after July 1 or if they were not able to purchase their pass before July 1. Passes will be reduced by $8 per month beginning in July and each month thereafter until new passes go on sale next May.
Seniors qualify for a reduced rate pass if their income is below $29,706 for a couple or $23,861 for a single. Prorating will begin in July when the passes will be reduced by $8.00 each month until next May, when the new passes go on sale again. For more information, visit Calgary Transit or call (403) 262-1000.
