I remember meeting with the West Memorial Trunk team shortly after being elected in October, 2013. The conversation was open, and they were challenged to consider all options regarding technology. Shortly afterwards, the team recommended the micro-tunnelling option. The result was to contract an outside expert in tunnelling. The City team was in-charge of the project overall.
The tunnelling process began January 23rd, 2015, with an estimated completion of September, 2017. I met with the team on a monthly basis and attended several site visits during the process. The team was driven to hit the targets and milestones through-out the project. This was a critical project, as it affected multiple communities:
• Canada Olympic Park
• Scenic Acres
• Silver Springs
• Valley Ridge
Within these boundaries, houses and businesses could not move forward. This had a direct impact on people’s lives. As of Monday, November 23rd, 2015, I am pleased to announce that ALL “restrictions to build” in the above communities are removed. This is almost 2 years ahead of the first date proposed!
I cannot express enough my gratitude and congratulations to the West Memorial Trunk team and contractors involved in this important project. This is a great early Christmas present to the many residents and businesses of northwest Calgary, one for which we are truly thankful.
