To mark the start of the construction of the building, The City will break ground for the Rocky Ridge recreation facility in October, 2014. The construction of the facility is expected to take three years, with an anticipated opening in 2017.
Featuring views of the mountains and surrounded by wetlands, the Rocky Ridge recreation facility will sit in the middle of a natural park. The building, including its curving roof structure, is designed to complement the surrounding rolling landscape, including the hill that reaches Calgary's highest natural elevation.
When complete, the 284,000 sq. ft. facility will provide a wide range of amenities including: leisure and sport ice rinks; swimming pools; gymnasiums; a fitness centre; a theatre; and art studiosa self-serve open-concept library and gallery.
Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility is located on the northeast corner of Rocky Ridge Road and Country Hills Boulevard. For the latest news and designs for Rocky Ridge, visit www.calgary.ca/newreccentres.
