Secondary Suites Development Permits

On 2015 July 28, Council approved Land Use Bylaw amendments that allow an 18-month exemption of the Development Permit requirement for secondary suites where they are already a permitted use. The Development Permit exemption will launch on 2015 September 1, making the approval process easier and less costly for a secondary suite in a home.
For more information or to determine if a property is a candidate for the Development Permit exemption, visit and enter the address into the zoning tool. The City of Calgary's Planning Services Counter at (403) 268 5311 can also help answer citizen questions and determine eligibility.
