Initial Findings - Suite Safety Approach Pilot
Administration conducted a pilot to review a sample group of suites, from May 2012 to April 2013, the Suite Safety Approach Pilot. The pilot reviewed 50 suites in all types land use districts for Fire and Building Code compliance. The issues identified include: public safety; the need for increased understanding on what constitutes a safe suite; and the need for increased understanding regarding the process for approvals for secondary suites in single detached dwellings. The report addressed a recommendation for Administration to develop, with stakeholder input, secondary suite guidelines to provide clarity and consistency for the public and Administration, as well as reporting the results of the pilot.
