In the June 2013 flood event, a portion of the bank along the Bow River near Home Road NW saw significant erosion. The restoration of the riverbank required stabilizing of the slope to protect it from future floods.
Impact to Residents
Citizens located near the delivery site will see and hear construction activities. There will be increased traffic on the Trans Canada Highway and Home Road NW. Some pathways through East Bowmont Park will be closed or detoured.
Citizens will notice dust and noise as material is delivered. The contractor will abide to The City standards for dust and noise control during the construction period. Home Road is cleaned on an "as needed" basis. The City has visited regularly to monitor the dust control issues.
Construction Schedule Update
The riverbank repair work is expected to be completed between mid-June to the end of June 2014, depending on the weather.
Bowmont Park is estimated to be vacated from all of the river rock storage and incoming and outgoing deliveries, tentatively planned in July. Alternate storage sites are being coordinated by staff in charge of purchasing and delivery of rocks.
