Ward 1 News: Residential Break-In and Vehicle Theft in Varsity

  • Share

Ward 1 official website In the last month, the community of Varsity reported 10 residential break-ins, theft from  vehicles and vehicle theft. Councillor Sutherland strongly recommends that residents connect to The Hub Messaging System, a Calgary police community automated notification system that delivers vital information to residents and business owners within the City of Calgary at: https://hiplink.calgarypolice.ca/websignup/wsuedit.html

In the fall of 2014, The Calgary Police Service also reported a rise in burglaries in Ward 1. In almost all cases, the culprit gains access to residences by removing screen windows/doors, opening unlocked windows and doors, or via an overhead garage door.

Remember to:

  • Lock the door leading from an attached garage to the residence, as screen doors and windows can be easily cut or removed.
  • Turn off power to the overhead garage door.
  • Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles at all times. Do not leave any valuables inside, including your garage door opener.
