News Release - West Memorial Sanitary Trunk Ahead of Schedule
June 3, 2015
I would like to thank the City’s Water Services’ Rob Spackman and his team for an outstanding job planning and executing the West Memorial Trunk Project. The project is currently under budget and ahead of schedule. The new estimated completion date is May 1, 2016, a five month reduction from the initial September 2016 timeline. As a result of your significant accomplishment on a major wastewater system that affected 10 communities in the NW, residents will be able to move into their homes and businesses will be able to open sooner than anticipated.

March 12, 2015
The Bowness Trunk project is proceeding nicely in Bowness/Shouldice. The two river crossings along the Shouldice Athletic Park are completed and the contract is well in hand. The second contract is underway with 3 of the 6 tunnelling shafts along the railroad tracks completed. Once the shafts are completed, tunnelling will proceed. The chambers and connections between the two projects and the existing system will be near the end of the project.
Councillor Sutherland would like to thank the West Memorial Sanitary Trunk team for their timely work. He looks forward to the project completion by September 2016.

Bowness Sanitary Trunk Construction Project Newsletter
Based on a 2010 study of Calgary’s northwest wastewater system and the impacts of growth to its infrastructure, Water Services has determined that the main sanitary sewer line is operating at capacity. In ward 1, several communities are impacted:
• Canada Olympic Park
• Scenic Acres
• Silver Springs
• Valley Ridge
In order to protect public safety, property and the environment, The City has new criteria for how planning, development and building applications are processed in impacted northwest communities and areas. Since October 31, 2013, a new criteria issued to process new and existing applications until upgrades to the West Memorial Sanitary Trunk are completed by Water Services in 2017.
Water Services has begun work to upgrade the wastewater system to increase capacity in this section of the northwest. This work includes upgrades to the existing wastewater system, adding a second wastewater pipeline under the Bow River, and completing wastewater upgrades in Bowness. This work is estimated to be completed in 2017.
