Before you start pouring concrete, make sure you have a permit!
Widening or extending your driveway sounds like a really good idea if you want more parking or just don’t like cutting your grass. It’s your property but extending your driveway impacts safety, street parking, property values and storm water drainage which impacts your whole neighbourhood.
Are you thinking of buying a house with an existing widened driveway? Make sure it has a permit. If you already bought the house and the widened driveway does not have a permit, you are still responsible to get a permit or remove the driveway. Bylaw information about driveways including what is typically approved or refused can be found here.
Consider alternatives like a low maintenance garden or mulch. There are several options that offer more decorative and environmentally friendly solutions than concrete. The City has several resources on the YardSmart site to help you transform your front garden.
