Residential Parking Permits are going digital

On May 9, 2017, City Council approved developments to the Calgary Traffic Bylaw, allowing the Residential Parking Permit (RPP) program to start using online permits instead of passes and hang tags for resident and visitor parking.

The basic program framework will remain the same. Residents will not be asked to pay any new fees and the new RPP system will not impact your eligibility to receive residential and/or visitor parking permits.

The benefits to the new RPP system include:

  • A quick online permit application and renewal process for resident.
  • A two-year permit instead of a one-year permit for residents.
  • Permits will now be linked to license plates which will eliminate lost or stolen permits.
  • A streamlined internal process for administrating permits.
  • The new system allows for more effective and efficient enforcement of residential parking zones. Enforcement of the residential parking zones will be done primarily by photo enforcement and supplemented by our mobile enforcement officers.

It will take 12 months to fully transition to the new online RPP system. During this first year, residents will be asked to register for an online account (or contact us so we can set one up for them) during their regular renewal time.

If residents do not have access to the internet, they can call us at 403.537.7000 and leave a voicemail to start a visitor parking session 24/7.
