NE Pride

I would like to highlight some of the creative activities happening in Ward 10. Some of the events can be initiated by The City, but many are by the residents and/or community groups and can be found on the Event Calendar linked from my home page.

Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal

By Command of Her Majesty The Queen, I had the privilege of presenting the Diamond Jubilee Medal to the following people:

  • Perry Cavanagh, General Manager of Don Hartman Northeast Sportsplex and Past President of Hockey Calgary;
  • Naeem Chaudhry, Past President of Calgary's northeast Ahmadiyya Muslim community (Bait'un nur Mosque)and Run for Calgary/Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation;
  • Harmohinder Plaha, Past President, Calgary’s South Asian Canadian Association;
  • Marjorie Roy, Past President, Pineridge Community Association; and
  • Larry Yasman, President, Rundle Community Association,

in commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of Her Majesty’s Accession to the Throne and in recognition of their contributions to Canada. Governor General of Canada 1952-2012.

Ward 10 is located in northeast Calgary bordered by the east city limits, south along Memorial Drive to the west by Deerfoot Trail, north by McKnight Boulevard then north along 68 Street to 64 Avenue East.

Ward and Community Map

NE Calgary is a culturally diverse quadrant of the city with true prairie landscape and farmland to the east and beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains to the west. The ward is comprised of the following communities: AbbeydaleCalgary MarlboroughCoral SpringsMarlborough ParkMayland HeightsMonterey ParkPineridgeRundleTempleVista HeightsWhitehorn. The ward also includes the commercial areas of: Franklin, Horizon, Mayland, McCall, Meridian, North Airways, South Airways and Sunridge.

Homes in the NE are largely single-family residences, but also offer some multifamily housing. Residents appreciate the proximity and easy access to the City Centre, Calgary International AirportAero Space MuseumC-Train light rail transit system, and Medallion Business Centre. International shopping at Marlborough Mall, Northgate Village Shopping Centre, Sunridge Mall, TransCanada Mall. Plus a variety of recreational facilities: Regional Pathway SystemDon Hart​man Northeast SportsplexMcCall Lake Golf CourseVillage Square Leisure CentreVillage Square Public LIbrary, and a short drive to the Calgary Zoo and the new TELUS World of Science just to name a few.

Wildside in Calgary

Watch Rick Mercer take a walk on the "Wildside in Calgary" as he becomes a zookeeper for a day. Rick joins in on the King Penguin Walk, feeding time for Franklin the Red Panda, Sparky the Hippo, Crosby the Giraffe and the Tiger babies.

The Hub Messaging System

The Calgary Police Service Hub messaging System is now available to all community members who work or live in the city of Calgary or local calling area. This messaging system delivers notifications to landlines and cellular telephones about city events, safety notifications and emergency incidents. NE Community President's meeting

The NE Community Presidents' meetings are held monthly. The purpose of these meetings is to share information between myself, special interest groups and the NE community presidents of Ward 10. If you have an event or an issue you need presented to this group, please contact your respective Community Association President who can discuss it on your behalf at the next meeting.
