Ward 11 News: Anderson Road Widening for SWRR Project

  • Share

Ward 11 official website

The City is widening Anderson Road S.W. to six lanes between the Southwest Ring Road (SWRR) and Elbow Drive S.W. This improvement provides for a better road network by offering an attractive road for people travelling east-west through the area between the SWRR and city destinations.

Construction Update

Construction on the widening of Anderson Road between Elbow Drive and the SWRR will begin in late July or early August. In 2017, construction crews will be working between Elbow Drive and 14 Street SW and west of 24 Street SW to the future SWRR. Construction of the noise barriers along Anderson Road will also start this year.

Potential Impacts

Residents may notice periodic increases in construction traffic throughout the project. Periodic lane closures and speed limit reductions may occur, mainly during off-peak hours. The City will communicate the timing and location of closures, as well as any major activities or disruptions with area residents.

About

The City is responsible for the design and construction of this project because it is located within city limits. This project includes the following features:
  • Increasing Anderson Road from four to six lanes between the SWRR and Elbow Drive SW, coupled with the higher speed limit and fewer intersections compared to other nearby east-west roads, makes a more attractive option for people travelling through the area.
  • Adding extra turning lanes at all the intersections on Anderson Road between the SWRR and Elbow Drive SW will improve the flow of traffic along this route.
  • A noise study was conducted and determined that several locations along Anderson Road within the project area require noise barriers, as guided by The City’s Surface Noise Policy. Information on the location and types of the proposed noise barriers are shown here.
