On July 5, 2011, Council approved the Cycling Strategy
, a document that outlines how The City will make cycling a comfortable and convenient travel option for more Calgarians. As a part of the Cycling Strategy, The City is planning an east-west/north-south network of cycle tracks in the Centre City. This network would tie into the 7 Street S.W. cycle track
, which opened in July 2013.
The proposed Centre City cycle track network will create a better and safer cycling connection between the Elbow River and Bow River pathways, connecting cyclists with businesses and recreation facilities in the Centre City. Planning for the cycle track network is underway and expected to continue into spring 2014.
In early February 2014, The City is hoping to have a draft copy of the cycle track network, showing the streets and avenues selected for cycle tracks, available to show Calgarians.
