As part of our goal to reduce the amount of waste sent to our landfills by 2020, The City has been looking at various ways to make recycling and composting easier. Since March 2012, the community of Southwood has been participating in the green cart collection program, and now selected four-plexes in Southwood have the opportunity to participate in a Cart Sharing Trial.

We know that it can be difficult to accommodate a black, blue and green cart at four-plexes, so The City is looking at ways that neighbours can share these carts and save space. This is a yearlong voluntary trial, and will be evaluated based on feedback from participants. Those four-plexes participating in the Cart Sharing Trial have the option to increase the size of their shared blue and green carts, to handle the increased amount of recyclables and organics produced by sharing.
