On September 28, 2016, we received an update from Recreation about repairs and maintenance at the Glenmore Aquatic Centre.
The Centre will become more accessible to all Calgarians with a series of renovations to the change rooms and washroom fixtures. This work to become a more accessible facility comes with a few growing pains though, as the facility is getting these inclusive features as part of a larger mechanical and architectural overhaul. The Centre is nearly half a century old, and while it was fortunate enough to undergo a bit of a face-lift two years ago, there are some critical pieces that must be fixed in order to keep the building operational.
Usually, The City’s buildings are thoroughly assessed for structural and mechanical issues once every ten years, however due to the age of many of our facilities the timeline has recently been shortened to every five years.
As a result of this work, the Centre will be closed from November 24th of this year to February 21st, 2017.
If you have a pass, you will be able to get a pro-rated refund. If your child is part of the Seals Swim Club, know that the Seals Coach is working with the City’s Recreation representatives to find an alternative space for the duration of this closure.
Looking forward to another 50 years of swimming!
