This spring will mark the beginning of the planning and design process for the new regional pathway link along the Glenmore Reservoir. Construction of the new pathway is expected to begin by fall of 2017. The ability to facilitate this 20 year vision was made possible through negotiating new lease terms with Earl Grey golf course.
Support for this pathway can be found in the Urban Park Master Plan, The City of Calgary Open Space Plan and generally supported in the imagineParks 30 year vision survey.
The process will begin with a portion of existing pathways in North Glenmore Park being realigned in Spring 2013. There is not expected to be any interruptions to users of the pathway while realignment takes place. Then planning, design, engineering and cost analysis, site preparation for construction and Council approval for funding of the project all must occur thus the 2017 start date for construction.
Comments provided in the 2012 Citizen Satisfaction Survey have demonstrated Calgarians' support for a well-connected pathway system. The survey also found that 83 per cent of Calgarians utilize pathways for either recreation or transportation purposes.
