Altadore has been selected to participate in a City-wide initiative focused on converting 2,500 streetlights in five different communities to energy efficient fixtures this spring and summer.
The existing High Pressure Sodium streetlights in Altadore will be converted to energy-efficient LED fixtures. Upgrading the lights is expected to reduce electricity consumption, and maintain quality lighting on the roads.
The communities chosen for the project have a wide range of street and neighbourhood designs, and use lights of different wattages. Testing the LED lights in these different conditions will help determine if this type of fixture can be used in other areas of Calgary.
LED lighting has many benefits, some of which are reducing electricity usage, reducing “spilled” light, and providing better quality street light.
