As the City grows, it often reserves lands within communities to allow
for possible future expansion of roadways. This is done to avoid the costs and
trauma of expropriation, and to ensure that our municipality has the capacity
and space to serve its population.
Many of you are familiar with the pathway and green space which runs
along 37th street to the south of the Glenmore Reservoir: it has
been a staple of outdoor recreation for many people, for many years.
Technically, this stretch is City-owned lands reserved for the Ring Road.

Yesterday, I put forward a Motion
at Council to have Administration to consider the feasibility of closing the un-constructed road
right of way between 90th Ave SW and Anderson Rd, west of 37th
Street SW, and between 66th Ave SW & Glenmore Trail.
If the City Administration finds that this
is feasible, they will bring corresponding
road closures, utility rights of way and land use re-designation bylaws back to
Council, so that we may preserve the use of these lands as Park Space for
