It is important that all Calgarians have equal access to all programs, services, facilities and public spaces provided by The City, regardless of their income. This is made possible by assisting low-income families and individuals with various programs and services that The City offers. Eligibility for many of these programs is based on the Statistics Canada Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) rate, but programs vary and may require that additional criteria be met in order to qualify.
Some of the subsidized programs offered by The City of Calgary are: no cost spay/neuter, City Links, property tax assistance, recreation, and the Calgary Transit Low Income Passes. There are also 10 other partner organizations that provide fee assistance programs, more information on who those partners are can be found here. As well, through the Fee Assistance Program, you will receive 2 free Calgary Zoo admissions per person, a free Calgary Public Library card per person, and access to the Sun Life Financial Arts and Culture Pass.
More information on how to qualify and apply can be found on the Fee Assistance Program webpage or by phoning 3-1-1.
Also, 4 times a year the City sends out a newsletter featuring information on affordable recreation programs, events, special offers and other related services. You can sign up to receive this newsletter here.
