Starting Monday, August 4th, Calgary Transit began testing the first part of their real-time bus information system. Selected buses have been equipped to make onboard audio/visual announcements advising customers of upcoming stops along their bus route.
It is possible that the system may need adjustments while Calgary Transit is testing it on buses that are in service, but they do not anticipate any major issues. If you have any feedback regarding the system please tweet @calgarytransit, call 403-262-1000 or speak to the bus driver.
When the real-time information system is fully implemented customers will receive not only stop announcements on buses, but also real-time bus arrival times. Currently Calgary Transit can only provide customers with scheduled bus times. Eventually, real-time bus arrival information will be available through a new responsive website, teletext and teleride.
The real-time arrival information component of the system will be tested this fall and the full system is expected to launch later this year.
