Here's an update on the redevelopment progress of River Park, Sandy Beach and Britannia Slopes. There are also some new area closures occurring over the next few weeks to be aware of.
A lot of the Phase II improvements have been completed, including:
- The Sandy Beach parking lot has been reconfigured, paved, painted with designated parking spots, and major landscape improvements. The parking lot is now open to the public.
- Upgrades to the washroom at Sandy Beach.

Flood repairs and enhancements to the beach area at Sandy Beach.
- Improvements to the off-leash river access point in Britannia/Riverdale, including restoration barrier installation to protect riparian vegetation communities. Please remember that no water-access for dogs is allowed at Sandy Beach.

New gravel trails from the Sandy Beach parking lot to the designated river access point and raft launch.
- Clearer lines of sight on the regional pathway and three rest stops located along the hill part of the path.

Caragana removed and replaced with native species.
- Escarpment fencing in River Park.
In addition, the timber stairs from Sandy Beach Park to River Park have been completed, but will remain closed until construction at the top of the stairs is complete. Upgrades to the picnic sites including improved accessibility, new tables, fire pits, and barbeques at Sandy Beach are near complete. As well, a new picnic shelter will be installed and ready for use later this summer.
Over the remainder of the summer the project team will be working on:
- Garbage enclosure improvements at River Park.
Trail and pathway improvements.
New shelters at Sandy Beach and Riveredge Park.
- Upgrades to the playground at Sandy Beach.

Timber stairs on the Britannia escarpment.
Planting/Implementation of living fences. This will provide natural barriers and enhancements to the existing fencing and better integrate these structures into the overall park aesthetic.
For Zone locations, please refer to this Area Closures Map.

Last week, the project team installed construction fencing around Zone 2 to continue work on upgrading the irrigation system in the park. The former area of the park that was closed  has reopened, with small sections remaining closed to allow the new turf and seed to germinate. As before, this new fenced areas and closure will be contained to active areas of construction only; the majority of the park will stay open for you to enjoy.
