Over the past several years the Parks department has been working with the community and stakeholders to develop a plan that will address concerns surrounding River Park, Sandy Beach and the Britannia Slopes. Concerns they heard ranged from environmental damage to aging amenities and user-group conflicts.
Through discussion with stakeholders, Parks created a management and design development plan to help resolve these issues.
In March 2014, Council voted to allocate funding for this project through the ENMAX Legacy Parks Program. This funding will allow Parks to complete all of the park improvements and recommendations in the Design Development Plan. This has allowed Parks to create a schedule that will minimize the impact on park users and allow the park to stay partially open as the improvements are made.
Construction will begin in this summer (2014), with completion anticipated to take place at the end of 2016. During the next couple of years, Parks will keep the project website up-to-date with the latest construction schedule. Questions about this project should be directed to Parks by contacting 3-1-1.
Please remember to obey all park closures and signage while you are in areas that are under construction.
