Over the past few years The City has been working on a Skateboard Amenities Strategy
, to try and provide the skateboarding community with a network of 50 skateparks over the next 10 years. With about 30,000 people in the skateboarding community here in Calgary, we need to build safe locations for them to skate. In 2013 we invited communities across Calgary to apply for a skatepark, and received 27 applications. From these 27, ten community sites were selected for the first round of engagement; in Ward 11 Southwood and Chinook Park/Kelvin Grove/Eagle Ridge were picked.
The City will be hosting open houses from January 28-30 so those who are interested can learn more about the overall skateboarding strategy, meet the design consultants for the skateparks, learn why these communities were selected to receive skateparks, how it will impact the neighbourhood and how you can get involved in the selection of future skateparks. There are overview photos of the proposed locations
available for you to see before the upcoming open houses.
We are still in the first stage of site selection, so please provide us with feedback by attend one of the following open houses: Open Houses: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.Tuesday, January 28
: Cardel Theatre – 180 Quarry Park Blvd S.E. Wednesday, January 29
